life, family, and what’s important

I’m still here

Well, I’m still around.  I’ve had kind of a rough few weeks lately.  The day after Mother’s Day I was at my son’s baseball game and my back suddenly started hurting really bad.  In a matter of moments I was on the ground with extreme back pain, which was going down my left leg causing my lower leg and foot to tingle.  It turns out I have a herniated disc which is pinching my nerve and causing the tingling and numbness in my leg.  It’s feeling better now but the tingling is still there.

My doctor told me I needed surgery, and offered no alternatives and quite frankly gave me very little information.  I feel like all I was to him was a billable appointment.  I think I’m too young to have surgery unless I have to, so I went to a chiropractor and they feel they can help me.  I’ve talked to a LOT of people who go to a chiropractor and I haven’t heard anyone say that it didn’t help them.

Hopefully I’ll continue to get better.  It’s no fun being so limited in what you can do.  My wife has done a lot of extra work (mowing the lawn, taking the laundry downstairs, etc) and she needs a break.

Keeping a Calendar

Last week I realized that I had better start keeping my own calendar so I could keep up with all the ballgames, practices, church stuff, etc. in my life.  I’ve tried this before using a PDA but didn’t keep up with it very well.  At the time, my PDA wasn’t online and I always had to sync it by plugging it in at home.  It was too much hassle.  This time I thought I would use the calendar feature from AOL.  I use AOL for my email, and I’m constantly on it, so I figured it would make things easier by putting my calendar on AOL too.  So far it’s working good.  I can check email and look at the calendar at the same time, especially now that AOL has a new beta version of their email.  Go to AOL and check it out.

Some things never change

Technology changes - Think about what a cell phone looked like 5 years ago and compare that to the upcoming iphone.

Family life changes – It’s amazing to me how different family’s lives are today as compared to when I was a child.

Society changes – It amazes me how far downhill our society has gone in the last generation.  We’ve taken what used to be regarded as evil and called it good.

God Never Changes – Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  He doesn’t change his beliefs based on popular opinion.  He doesn’t show us love one day, then turn on us the next.  He’s not a Buckeye fan one day and a Wolverine fan the next (everyone knows he’s always been a Buckeye fan).  He always loves us unconditionally, even when we do things that don’t please Him.  He is constant; he’s always there for us, always ready to forgive us when we ask, always there to talk to.  In a world that’s in such a mess, it’s good to know this.
